General Settings

Part One: Basic Environment Configuration

This section determines the software's display language, network connection method, and rendering performance.

1. Language (Language)

  • Function Details: Switch the display language of the software interface.

  • Supported List: Click the dropdown on the right to view; supports Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, German, Japanese, Russian, Greek, Spanish, French, Portuguese.

  • 💡 Use Case: If you are accustomed to reading English technical documents or need to take screenshots to report issues to foreign developers, you can switch here.

2. Proxy Mode (Proxy Mode)

  • Function Details:

    • System Proxy (System Proxy): The software will automatically follow your Windows/macOS system network settings. If you have a global accelerator running on your computer, the software will automatically use that network.

  • 💡 Key Tip: Cherry Studio mainly calls overseas model APIs such as OpenAI and Claude. If you encounter red error messages like "connection timed out" or "API request failed",please first check whether your computer software is turned on and confirm that this is set to "System Proxy."

3. Spell Check (Spell Check)

  • Function Details: When enabled, the system will automatically detect spelling errors (mainly for English words) as you type in the dialog box and display a red wavy underline under the misspelled words.

  • 💡 Recommendation:

    • If you frequently useEnglishto converse with the AI, it is recommended toenable.

    • If you mainly useChinese, it is recommended todisableto avoid false positives interfering with visuals.

4. Disable Hardware Acceleration (Disable Hardware Acceleration)

  • Function Details: Cherry Studio is developed on the Electron framework and by default uses the GPU to render the interface for a smoother experience. Turning on this switch meansforcibly using CPU rendering.

  • ⚠️ For troubleshooting only: Normally, pleasekeep it off(i.e., the slider is gray).

  • When should you enable it? If your software experiences the following display issues, enable this option and restart the software:

    • The software interface is black, white, or flickering.

    • Interface fonts are blurry or torn.

    • Noticeable lag when operating on a low-spec computer.

Part Two: Messages and Alerts (Notification Settings)

Controls how the software interrupts you when running in the background.

1. Assistant Message (Assistant Message)

  • Function Details: When you switch to other software to work and the AI finally finishes generating a long reply, the system will pop up a notification to alert you.

  • 💡 Recommendation: enable. Especially when using reasoning models (such as o1) or generating long texts, it avoids boring waiting.

2. Backup (Backup)

  • Function Details: Sends a notification when the software performs automatic backups or a manual backup is completed.

  • 💡 Recommendation: enable. Ensures you know whether your data is safely archived.

3. Knowledge Base (Knowledge Base)

  • Function Details: Building an index for the knowledge base usually takes time; when enabled, you'll be notified once the index build is complete.

  • 💡 Recommendation: enable.

Part Three: Software Behavior Habits (Startup and Tray)

These settings determine whether Cherry Studio stays resident in the background like "WeChat" or behaves like ordinary software that closes when you're done.

1. Startup (Startup)

  • Start on system boot:

    • Scenarios to enable: If Cherry Studio is your main productivity tool, it is recommended to enable this so it's ready at startup.

  • Minimize to tray on startup:

    • Usage suggestion: Usually used together with "Start on system boot." When enabled, the software will silently start in the background at boot without popping up the main window and blocking the desktop, keeping the desktop tidy.

2. System Tray (System Tray)

  • Show tray icon:

    • It is recommended to alwaysenable. Convenient for quickly bringing up the software or checking status in the bottom-right corner.

  • Minimize to tray when closing (Key setting):

    • Enabled (🟢): When you click the X close button at the top right/left of the window, the softwarewill not exitbut will minimize to the bottom-right tray. This way it will "open instantly" next time, and ongoing conversations won't be interrupted.

    • Disabled (⚪): Clicking X will completely kill the process and exit the software.

    • 💡 Strongly recommended: enable. Keeping the software resident in the background provides the best experience.

Part Four: Advanced Options

1. Privacy Settings

  • Send anonymous crash reports and usage statistics:

    • Enabling this helps developers fix bugs. The data is completely anonymous (does not include your chat history or API key); enabling it is recommended to support the development of the open-source project.

2. Developer Mode

  • Enable developer mode:

    • Function: When enabled, it may display more debugging information on the interface (for example, raw prompt packets, token calculation details, etc.) or allow access to test features that are not fully released.

    • 💡 Recommendation: Regular users are adviseddisableto disable it to avoid too many technical parameters appearing on the interface that are hard to understand and disrupt the immersive experience.
